Running a new small business often involves being a juggler. You wear so many hats and often several of them are in the air at the same time. The trick is to not drop any of them.
Let me share a secret about running a successful small business. It is simply knowing when to bring in help. While the hands-on approach seems to be the only feasible way to run a lot of small businesses, smart owners know when their return on investment will improve by stepping aside and letting someone else do the job better, faster and ultimately cheaper.
You have likely gone into business because you are passionate about the business – the products or services you offer to people. The business of running a business is part of that, but it may not be something you enjoy.
So you need to keep an eye on your bottom line and decide when you need to get help. It might be at the very beginning while you are formulating an idea for your business and developing your business plan. You may find that even though your business plan is ready the banks don’t seem interested. The Business Help Centre (CFDC) of Middlesex County offers small business loans to new and expanding businesses in the Middlesex County area (excluding those located within the City of London). A completed business plan and application form is all that are required to apply for funding; and a Business Plan outline is all that is needed, rather than a Business Plan if you apply for a MicroLoan.
You may find that as your business grows, you don’t have the expertise or the time for some of the day-to-day tasks involved with a successful business. It might be budgeting, bookkeeping, taxation, marketing, or writing proposals, contracts or agreements.
The Business Help Centre (CFDC) of Middlesex County works one-on-one with its clients to build relationships which foster small business success. There is never a charge for the business counselling and consulting services. The experienced staff are business educated and are committed to helping you, the small business owner succeed.
