Mike Koricina and Teresa Burns are the owners of Hog Town Cycles. Hog town is Southwestern Ontario’s premier motorcycle shop, specializing in sales of pre-owned Harley Davidson Motorcycles.
There is no denying that Harley Davidson Motorcycles are Mike Koricina’s bike of choice!
In 2005, he decided to open his own truck-auto shop. While running the shop, Mike began to sell pre-owned Harley Davidson Motorcycles. Specializing in pre-owned Harleys proved to be a success for Teresa and Mike, and on May 1st 2012 they opened Hog Town Cycles.
Mike explains that Hog Town, “started with absolutely nothing, it was an empty store. There was no motorcycle shop in Lucan and in 6 years, it has expanded beyond my expectations”.
By 2014, Mike had stopped his auto-shop business and was dedicating all of his efforts towards running Hog Town.
Although Mike and Teresa are not looking to physically expand their store, they are always looking for new ways to operate more efficiently and effectively. For instance, Mike's auto body shop is now used as a seasonal rental space for customers to store their motorcycles.
Why has Hog Town been so successful? They are able to accommodate their clients by having a full-service shop in-store. Hog Town employs 9 staff members, 2 of which handle all Harley repairs.
Hog town offers a unique service for customers. It is the only pre-owned Harley Davidson store in the area that offers a full range of repair services in one location.
Some of you may also know Mike and Teresa as the founders of the epic motorcycle event, “Lucan Baconfest- Everything Bacon & Bikes”:
“We were doing our open house for the first two years in June or July. A close friend came up with a radio promotion “Bacon fest”, and right away he said well there should only be one place hosting Baconfest and it should be Hog Town. It started from there. We called our next open house Baconfest. We probably had 800 people and then next year it was 3 thousand, and then 8 thousand, 16 thousand, 30 thousand. Four years ago, we didn’t expect that we’d have 30,000 people”. -Mike
In four short years, Baconfest has grown from a small celebration of motorcycle culture to a town-wide event.
The annual event draws motorcycle and bacon enthusiasts, along with tourists. From live music to Harley pulls, there’s something there for everyone!
How has hosting Baconfest influenced Hog Town?
In Teresa's words, "Baconfest works hand in hand with our business, which is nice. We’ve built a business and have been able to build a theme around it, which draws traffic to our business. If they haven’t heard of Hog Town, they’ve heard of Baconfest and vice versa. So it’s good branding for us".
The event has become a town-wide community collaboration, celebrating everything bacon and bikes in a family-friendly atmosphere:
"It’s an awesome day in the store and the town is really on side with us, we couldn’t do it without their cooperation”- Teresa.
BaconFest has become not only a tourist destination in Southwestern Ontario, but a unique platform to draw awareness to Lucan and its surrounding communities.
Just this year, Mike and Teresa received The Innovation Award from the Southwestern Ontario Tourism Conference, for their efforts in creating an innovative tourist experience.
Whether you’re purchasing a Harley, or looking for repairs, maintenance and upgrading, Hog Town can service all your needs!
