Tail Waggin’ Dog Ranch is a cage-free dog boarding and daycare service that accommodates all dog breeds. The 14- acre ranch located in Muncey Ontario, is owned by Tim Raven and Wendy Wallace.
Tim and Wendy began fostering dogs in 2008. After fostering for a year, Tim knew that he would like to do more to help dogs. He enrolled in a yearlong program at Animal Behaviour College and graduated with Honors as a Certified Dog Trainer in September 2010.
Surprisingly, it was actually Wendy’s hairdresser who shared with Tim and Wendy that many families are looking for dog boarding services, and for some time, Tim and Wendy would help take in dogs of family and friends. On September 2010, Tail Waggin’ Dog Ranch became an official dog boarding and daycare business open to the public. The Ranch employs 3 staff members who help Tim and Wendy to supervise the dogs.
As dog owners and foster parents, Tim and Wendy understand the importance of letting “dogs be dogs”. In 2012 they moved from their home in West Lorne to Muncey Ontario. Their new 14- acre home, provides an ample amount of space for the dogs to enjoy and play!
Tim later completed an in-shelter training course designed to provide techniques that help increase enrichment and reduce stress in shelter environments. Here, he learned that fences and crates can create barrier aggression; a behavior dogs exhibit as a result of an inability to interact with the environment, which can lead to negative behaviours in dogs.
Tail Waggin’s cage-free approach, creates an open and safe environment that allows dogs to interact with the supervision of trained staff.
Tim and Wendy believe that the initial socialization of new dogs is a determinant of how enjoyable their stay is: “That’s something we do with every dog, it doesn’t matter if your dog’s been coming here for years, we will still do this. Every dog is different, it’s like people. Being introduced to someone new can be intimidating and people are shy, dogs are the exact same way. We want to take our time to not stress or cause any anxiety if we don’t need to”.
They introduce each dog one at a time and work at a slow pace until they are certain that they are comfortable. If a dog is not social, they will be able to enjoy all of the services the ranch has to offer in a less stressful environment.
After almost 10 years, Tim and Wendy have resigned from fostering dogs. Today, they are working with women’s shelters to provide women with a safe space to keep their furry companion.
Thanks to the help of a close friend, Tim and Wendy are able to provide women with an option that will help keep their dog safeand their mind at ease while they are away.
Tail Waggin’ offers assessments and training, grooming, socializing, boarding, and daycare services to all dogs. They are open Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturday to Sunday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Their prices are all- inclusive, and come with walks, treats, and lots of cuddles!
Is it your first time going away without your four-legged friend?
No need to worry! Tim and Wendy take lots of photos of the dogs during their introductions and walks. So even while you are away, you can see just how much fun your dog is having, playing with all their new friends!
What’s in store for Tail Waggin’ Dog Ranch?
Tim and Wendy’s business is growing faster than they ever imagined and they’re now looking towards expanding the ranch to comfortably accommodate 30 to 40 dogs. With this expansion, they are hoping to provide recreational activities like dock diving; a new sport which allows dogs to compete in jumping for height or distance from a dock into a body of water! They are also looking to build 4 additional play areas and a pond for the dogs to enjoy during hot summer days.
One exciting venture Tim and Wendy are exploring is the prospect of creating a private park! Although the park will be open to all clients, Tim and Wendy believe that this service will be highly beneficial for their clients who have anxious pets. The private park will accommodate clients by allowing for the option to book for the private use of the park.
Tail Waggin’ aims to provide an inclusive daycare and boarding service for all dogs:
“With the expansion, we will have bigger rooms so we can offer a cage-free setting for dogs who are uncomfortable around other dogs and open it to some customers who aren’t comfortable with their dogs in a caged free environment”.

The Business Help Centre “financed parts of our building and we’re working with them on financing the expansion. We went to some of the workshops that they offer, which has been helpful. We even met our business coach there! Without them, we wouldn’t have Tail Waggin’ Dog Ranch yet”.
